You Don’t Have To Be Sick

“GOD’S DIET” & GOOD HEALTH PLAN By Cynthia Plummer, RN, MSN

I would like to share with you what I have learned since 1986 practicing as a nurse, wife, and mother that has helped me and my family to achieve a higher level of WELLNESS.

What I learned since January of 2003, is that you can eat a really healthy diet as I did for many years, and still face a serious health challenge, if you do not have BALANCE in every area of your life. I will categorize the areas for you to focus on according to nursing theorist Dorothea Orem’s “7 Universal Needs” that every human being requires being met.

AIR

Breathing fresh air–free of pollutants such as smoke, chemicals, and dust–whether at home or at your workplace, is vital to your health. Using an indoor air purifier such as those made by Ecoquest can greatly reduce the airborne pollutants you breathe in on a daily basis. Did you know that between 2 and 10 million dust mites live in your mattress, and another 2 million live in your pillow? Dust mites can cause various problems such as breathing disorders, allergies, skin problems, etc. The Ecoquest air purifiers not only significantly reduce the number of dust mites, but also molds, bacteria, mildew, pollen, and bad odors (i.e., harsh chemicals, pet odors, smoke, tobacco smoke) which also cause similar health problems. However, the very best air we can breathe is clean, outdoor air with the sunshine on our face. Did you know that we need at least 15 minutes of sunshine on our skin each day for our bodies to produce Vitamin D for healthy immune systems and function at their best?

WATER

Drinking pure water–free of chemicals, viruses, and bacteria–is vital to your health. I have studied 5 books on which type of water is the safest and most pure and came to the conclusion that Kangen water is the best (filtered tap water 2nd best; kangendemo.com). Yes, we need minerals too, but we need them in a form that our body can absorb. Our bodies cannot absorb the minerals found in hard water any better than our water faucets that become corroded with mineral deposits. Ask anyone with kidney stones or arthritis how much better they feel when drinking Kangen water. You can obtain the minerals you need from the fruits, vegetables, a good multivitamin/mineral supplement such as glyconutrients and naturally harvested, sun-dried sea salt free of any added chemicals. I use the Celtic Sea Salt— it tastes great and helped my adrenal fatigue.

To determine how much water your body needs, take your body weight, divide it by 2, and this will give you the number of ounces you need each day (e.g., 150 lbs. = 75 ounces or about 9 1/2 cups of water a day). Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Lorraine Day, who was healed of advanced breast cancer with diet and lifestyle change–no chemo or radiation– reports that her cancer did not subside until she increased her intake of water each day and found BALANCE in EVERY AREA of her life.

FOOD

I enjoyed good health for 3+ years with the Hallelujah Diet until having mercury/amalgam fillings extracted from my teeth in January of 2002 when my colon, which had not bled for 3+ years, began bleeding again and continued to bleed for the next year, despite every natural therapy that I knew of. As recommended by Naturopath and co-founder of the Plan B Diet, Judie Westbrook of weighofwisdom.com, I added wild game and natural beef–free of any hormones or antibiotics that my husband raises–in November of 2002 to help combat the severe anemia I was experiencing with the bleeding ulcers since the natural therapies had failed; this did not work either. ONLY after adding glyconutrient supplements to my diet December 30, 2002 did my body begin to heal; within 1 week the severe candida/yeast infection with vaginal bleeding of 5 months had stopped, and within 2 weeks the gastrointestinal bleeding of 1 year had stopped and my energy began returning. Each month my blood tests improved and I felt better just as the hundreds of others that I have worked with and heard or spoken to with every sort of health challenge. My blood tests are normal now. I continue to walk in faith believing for COMPLETE HEALING while advancing my knowledge of God’s good health and diet plan.

BASIC FOOD CONCEPTS FOR GOOD HEALTH:

1. Minimally75-85% of your diet should consist of raw fruits and vegetables (organically grown best, especially with cancer) with fresh, raw juices daily including BarleyLife,

BarleyGreen/Green Magma, or other PURE, organically grown green juice with LIVE enzymes (BarleyLife vs BarleyMax Controversy–see itsyourhealth2.com). Do NOT double strain the pulp out of your fresh juices to minimize raising the blood sugar. Limit cooked meals to no more than ONE per day to make sure that you eat enough raw food each day with LIVE ENZYMES for health and energy. Ideally you would eat low fat, raw, vegan according to the 80/10/10 Diet by Dr. Douglas N. Graham (foodnsport.com).

Bottomline–if you will eat the food as close to the way God created it as possible, you should do well. So when you go to the grocery store, stay along the outer walls where the fresh produce, meats, eggs, and dairy are and AVOID the highly processed, packaged DEAD foods sections. Reverend and Dr. Malkmus, founder of the Hallelujah Diet, says the packaged food sections are like a mausoleum, where the dead food lies in state.

2. Replace the “bad” foods in your diet with “good” foods–either gradually in stages (1 food group per week or month) OR “cold turkey” like I did. I must warn you though that when you stop anything “bad” abruptly, your body will go through withdrawal symptoms or detoxification/cleansing and you may not feel very good for 2-3 days, perhaps even longer–just like someone who stops smoking or taking other addictive drugs. Did you know that almost every packaged food in the regular grocery store has drugs in it? Just read the ingredient labels; if it’s not a food, it’s a drug. A drug is any substance intended to affect the structure or function of the body. Even packaged food in a health food store does NOT guarantee its safety; you must still read ingredient labels.

My personal opinion has always been that God doesn’t make any junk–and that includes “bad” food. We are not enjoying the good health that God wants us to have because we are eating God’s food PERVERTED by the greed of man, not to mention covering up the signs and symptoms of our failing health with over-the-counter and prescription drugs which ALL damage the liver–and some the kidneys too. Yes, sometimes drugs are necessary to keep us functioning and alive until our bodies have the resources to heal themselves; but, ideally, the drugs should only be a TEMPORARY aid. Consider using NON-TOXIC herbs as an alternative to pharmaceutical drugs, whenever possible, to assist your body’s own healing process (Ezekiel 47:12).

Examples of substituting “good” foods for “bad” foods are using whole grain flours and pastas versus bleached, white flours and pastas; using natural sweeteners like RAW honey from a local beekeeper who doesn’t add corn syrup to the honey like the store bought honey–refined white sugar depresses the immune system, causes depression, worsens ADD/ADHD (hyperactive children), and increases arthritic and muscle pain; and using naturally harvested, sun-dried sea salt rather than bleached and chemical-laden table salt.

* If eating a low glycemic index diet, substitute small, new potatoes or sweet potatoes for white potatoes AND pumpernickel rye. STONE-GROUND whole wheat (Hodgson or Arrowhead Mills flour) and/or sourdough breads. crackers (Akmak), etc.for white flour baked goods, long-cooking oatmeal, All-Bran, or Special K for highly processed cereals, and brown Basmati rice for white and other highly processed rice.

Any pasta is acceptable if eating out because all pasta has tiny air pockets that slow digestion, but whole grain pastas are best for use at home; restaurants that offer sourdough bread are Schlotsky’s and Cracker Barrel (see back of menu and specify sourdough bread when you order). * Eating a raw salad with lemon juice on the salad or in your water with lunch and dinner will slow the digestion of the whole meal and therefore, minimize the blood sugar elevation. * Eating 3 meals and 3 snacks between meals will also promote a more stable blood sugar, thereby reducing secretion of the hormone insulin, and the resulting storage of fat deposits to the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs; ideal snacks are raw fruits and vegetables. * If eating meat, choose lean cuts and bake or broil rather than fry; but, if you must, try sautéing with water or use a little olive oil to avoid trans-fatty acids and hydrogenation that have been linked to cancer and cardiovascular disease. * Limit fats–butter and oils–to 1 Tablespoon once or twice a day.

3. If vegetarian, supplement with sublingual methylcobalamin B 12 at least twice a week and take flax seed oil daily for essential fatty acids since not eating meat or fish, which are your best sources of these nutrients. According to 7 time Nobel Prize nominee, Dr. Johanna Budig, combine your flax seed oil with a protein, such as soy yogurt, and you’ll absorb the nutrients better. (“Flax Oil As A True Aid Against Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Cancer And Other Diseases” by Dr. Budig – Retails for $6.95)

4. If eating meat, eggs, or dairy products, choose organically raised or at the very least, naturally raised without hormones or antibiotics. After studying the scriptural basis for the Plan B Diet (Genesis 9:3 & 1Timothy 4: 1-5), and modifying the Hallelujah Diet to add the natural meats (plus organic dairy products and eggs for my husband, Jackie) as in the Plan B Diet, I realized that the healing that I experienced in 2 1/2 days back in 1999, was not only a miracle, but also because I drastically reduced the amount of drugs I was ingesting, both in pill form and in foods. My PMS/mood swings, anxiety, and depression were gone in 1 week after discontinuing the use of drug-laden meat/egg/dairy products; these problems did NOT reoccur with my reintroduction of natural meats into my diet after my relapse of gastrointestinal bleeding. People with candida/yeast problems/chronic fatigue report less symptoms eating drug-free meat/eggs/dairy products also. We now offer a wide range of locally raised, natural meats in our health food store at prices comparable to local supermarkets, in addition to farm raised eggs and organic dairy products. P.S. My insomnia also went away when I stopped using the pain pills back in 1999; I use a full days dose (triple-dose) of Barleygreen or a double-dose of BarleyLife (BarleyLife almost TWICE as strong as Barleygreen) ALL AT ONCE for headaches when I eat out. If you develop a new problem after taking a drug, it’s probably a side effect of the drug. Of course, the doctor will want to give you ANOTHER DRUG for that side effect AND SO ON, AND SO ON!

5. ANYONE not eating VINE-RIPENED fruits and vegetables from fertile soil on a daily basis NEEDS to supplement their diet with glyconutrients as mentioned above for a healthy immune system and the highest level of health possible. REST

Each one of us is different, but most doctors agree that we need at least 7 hours of restful sleep each night. Research indicates that our immune system works to heal our bodies from the hours of 10PM to 2AM, so make sure that you are ready to sleep during these times, if at all possible. If you have health challenges preventing you from sleeping restfully, such as snoring/sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, etc., you should seek natural solutions to correct these. Oh, and this is one I need to work on–”Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy”, Exodus 20:8. God designed our bodies to work 6 days and rest 1 each week.

Minimizing your levels of stress is also important but, I know–easier said than done! When you are under high stress, your body releases the hormone cortisol, which acts just like a synthetic steroid in your body–helpful on a short-term basis, but extremely damaging to your body on a long-term or chronic basis. Reverend and Dr. Malkmus, founder of the Hallelujah Diet, attributes his stroke in July, 2001 to chronically high stress levels and lack of BALANCE between work and rest in his life.

My husband attended a weight loss class at the annual glyconutrient meeting in Dallas and heard this case study: One man gained over 40 pounds after moving to the country. You think–”Oh, good! Lower stress.” Wrong–the man then had to commute 3 hours a day in heavy traffic increasing his stress levels, therefore the steroid effect, and weight gain among other health problems seen with high stress. His weight loss coach suggested he move back to the city, which he did, and the excess weight was lost. This same weight loss coach also promotes healthy diet and lifestyle of course, with glyconutrient supplementation.

ACTIVITY

Another issue that I need to improve on! Research indicates that our bodies function better when we are actively moving our bodies at least one hour per day. The activity should not be strenuous to enjoy better health–people have been known to have strokes and heart attacks when engaging in strenuous activity, such as mowing the lawn–even straining to have a bowel movement!

A good brisk walk outdoors in the sunshine and fresh air is the ideal exercise each day. Be sure to warm up your muscles 10 minutes before at the onset and finish with a slower pace to avoid injury. Also take any special precautions for your personal needs and area such as diabetic safety and personal protection.

ELIMINATION

If your bowels are functioning properly, you will have 2-3 bowel movements a day of SOFT stool–after each meal. Food sitting in your colon more than a couple of hours actually rots, thereby creating toxins that harm our health. Eating 35-40 grams of fiber a day will help to prevent many health problems such as headaches, fatigue, poor blood sugar control, cancer, high cholesterol/triglycerides, obesity, candida/yeast infections, malabsorption of nutrients due to a congested bowel, bleeding ulcers with chronic constipation, just to name a few. The average American only eats 8-12 grams of fiber a day. If you are eating adequate raw fruits and vegetables or the 80/10/10 Diet you will experience excellent elimination. Be sure to drink adequate WATER each day–not caffeinated foods/beverages that DEHYDRATE your body creating more problems such as constipation. If you are a Type A personality like me, you don’t like to sit idle for very long. I have found that if I save my paperwork or reading for sitting on the toilet morning and night, it allows my bowels the time to relax and completely evacuate twice a day, thereby preventing toxin formation in my bowels.

If you are considering having your mercury/amalgam dental fillings extracted, I highly recommend that you first read the book by Dr. Hal Huggins, DDS and Dr. Levy, MD, JD, “Uninformed Consent” available for purchase for $14.95. Dr. Huggins and Dr. Levy discuss various cases where chronic diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, fibromyalgia, epilepsy, arthritis, poor vision, chronic fatigue, depression, memory problems, high blood pressure, headaches, leukemia, breast cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, lupus, Bell’s Palsy, allergies, multiple chemical sensitivity, AIDS, ringing in the ears, etc., have been linked to amalgam/mercury poisoning and other heavy metals commonly used in dentistry AND the complete healings after these metals are removed.

Dr. Huggins and Dr. Levy do caution you however, to find a dentist who is specially trained in extracting the mercury, which is a hazardous heavy metal, or you can actually become very sick. In my case, all the recommended precautions were used, but because I am highly allergic to mercury, I struggled for over a year to overcome the subsequent detoxification after having my dental mercury/amalgam fillings extracted in January, 2002.

So really consider the risk to benefits before making an INFORMED decision; at least you will then know to ask for composite fillings rather than amalgam/mercury and titanium rather than stainless steel or nickel with any future dental work you have done. Keep in mind that once you have the mercury removed from your teeth, that you should not eat anything from the water again, such as fish, seafood, sea plants, etc. because of mercury contamination of our waters.

Many alternatives exist for detoxification of your body. Eating a healthy diet with fresh, raw fruits, vegetables and juices–including BarleyLife/Barleygreen–and ample amounts of pure water will be an excellent start in detoxifying your body. Making sure your diet is rich in ANTIOXIDANTS such as fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, green tea (preferably organic), or vitamin C is important. Also be careful of what lotions/creams you use since your skin absorbs everything applied onto it into your bloodstream; sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate found in soaps, toothpaste, and shampoos causes cancer. Using ANTI-PERSPIRANTS that contain aluminum have been linked to aluminum deposits in the brain/Alzheimer’s disease; choose a natural DEODORANT instead. Also, have you read the POISON warning on fluoride toothpaste? Intravenous and oral chelation have assisted many people in not only detoxification of heavy metals, but also the nonsurgical reversal of coronary artery disease and improving the circulation to the brain, extremities, and non-healing wounds. Just remember that detoxification is an ONGOING process since we are exposed to toxins daily through the air we breathe, food we eat, and water we drink. To enjoy the highest level of health possible, reduce your exposure to toxins wherever you can. Reduce toxin exposure by not only eating and drinking pure food and water, but also by removing chemicals from your closets and under your sinks. Although the chemical cleanser, etc. appears closed, FUMES still leak from the container. Storing chemicals outside your home or workplace where you breathe most of the time, is especially important in neuromuscular disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. Be sure to wear protective gear such as gloves, mask, and/or goggles when handling any chemicals. Did you know that vinegar is almost as effective as bleach in disinfecting objects and that you can accomplish most cleaning jobs–even unclogging a drain–with vinegar and baking soda?

LOVE AND BELONGING

As human beings, we all want to feel loved and accepted by our significant other, our friends, and our family. You can see this basic human need even in infancy–infants who are not held, cuddled, touched, and talked to FAIL TO THRIVE–in other words, they fail to gain weight, grow, or have that “healthy, happy baby” look even though they are clean and fed properly. This basic human need does not go away as we grow older.

Speaking as the perfectionist that I am, we should all focus on the POSITIVE attributes of the people we interact with at home AND out in public since no–not one of us is perfect, and never will be in this lifetime; this is another area that I have to pay close attention to because of my personality type. We should also focus on the POSITIVE aspects of what seems like a negative situation–pray for guidance, then fix what you can, and turn the rest over to God. God promises that he will work everything out for the good of those who love the Lord and who are CALLED according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

We must have PEACE in our life for good health. Avoid strife of any kind–be a peacemaker. Psalm 34: 14 tells us to “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it”. Look around you–find someone who needs help–you won’t have to look very far.

Do whatever you can to help them and guess what? Not only will God bless you, but your problems will not seem as significant..

Focus on God’s promises of good health (3 John 1:2) and COMPLETE HEALING (Acts 3: 16). Ask and you shall receive (John 16:24), but be careful not only of what words are coming out of your mouth (Galatians 6:7), but also what words are in your heart and mind (Proverbs 23:7 KJV). Remember, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22). Finally, we must be good stewards of our bodies–the temple of God (I Corinthians 3:16, Romans 12:1-2, James 1:22, Hebrews 10:26).
